Weight Management Service - Hale Village Pharmacy, Liverpool

Our weight loss scheme is designed to help you manage your diet and weight loss.

Two forms of treatment – Orlistat and Saxenda – are offered to patients to assist with their journey to losing weight and improving their overall health.

Orlistat prevents around a third of the fat from the food you eat being absorbed into the body. This undigested fat is instead excreted. Therefore, Orlistat can help you to avoid gaining weight, but will not necessarily assist you with losing weight. For this reason, Orlistat is typically only prescribed if the patient is making their own dedicated effort to lose weight (e.g. via regular exercise and dietary changes).

Saxenda (also known as Liraglutide) is an injected medicine that makes you feel more full and less hungry. Daily injections will help you to eat less and manage your weight. Saxenda is typically only prescribed as a last resort when other options (e.g. diet, exercise, and orlistat) have not worked and the patient does not want to have weight loss surgery.

For both medicines, a regular diet and exercise plan will need to be completed alongside treatment.

Additionally, our pharmacists can advise you on how to maintain a healthier lifestyle. This takes time and effort, but we are here to guide you every step of the way. Eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise are two fundamental steps in sustaining your weight loss.

Everyone’s weight loss journey is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Let our health experts provide you with a course of treatment specially catered to you and your lifestyle.
